Happy Father’s Day: Three Biblical Fathers Worth Celebrating

Father’s Day is just one day on the calendar, but the influence of a good father lasts a lifetime.

As we celebrate fathers, stepfathers, and father figures, we are blessed to find examples of all three in God’s Word.

Abraham, the Father Who Trusted God

Abraham is known as the father of faith. God promised him a son long after he and Sarah had given up hope of having children. Abraham waited, believed, and eventually welcomed Isaac.

Later, God tested Abraham by asking him to surrender the son he loved. Abraham’s response showed what godly fatherhood looks like—trusting God even when it’s difficult.

Today’s fathers share that same calling: to love their children deeply while trusting them to God’s care.

Joseph, the Stepfather Who Chose to Stay

Joseph could have walked away when he learned Mary was pregnant before they were married. Instead, after hearing God’s message through an angel, he chose to stay.

Joseph became Jesus’ earthly father, not through biology, but through commitment. He protected his family, provided for them, and helped raise Jesus into adulthood.

Scripture never records a single word Joseph spoke, yet his actions spoke volumes. He reminds us that a father is someone who shows up, protects, provides, and stays.

Mordecai, the Father Who Stepped In

Mordecai never planned to be a father, but when his cousin Esther was orphaned, he raised her as his own.

Even after Esther entered the king’s palace, Mordecai continued to guide and encourage her. When she faced a moment that would change history, his wisdom helped give her courage.

Mordecai represents every man who steps into a child’s life because love calls him to do so: grandfathers, uncles, mentors, coaches, and father figures who make a lasting difference.

A Word to Every Father

Whether you’re a biological father, stepfather, adoptive father, foster father, grandfather, or father figure, your influence matters more than you may realize.

This Father’s Day, we honor and celebrate every man who has answered that call.
