Let’s make this Fall an intentional time of loving God and others more deeply.
Fall is here and with it are changing seasons! Here are some ideas on how to season our lives and others with more of the Lord.
Fall into Reading God’s Word
Since we see shorter days and less outside time for kids, fall is a wonderful opportunity to start new activities to dig into the Bible as a family. There are many fun activities that help solidify Bible verses in our children’s hearts. Here are some activities the whole family can get involved in:
- Bible Trivia
- Word search
- Bingo
- Hopscotch
- Charades
“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:6-9
Fall More in Love with Jesus
If you delight yourself in the Lord, then He will give you the desires of your heart. Teaching our children to love God first and to seek Him in all we do lays a strong foundation for our kids to look to throughout their lives. As our children grow, their activities will change. How good it would be if our children defaulted to this verse in all they sought to do; to delight in the Lord knowing that He has good plans for them and His will for them is perfect. Here are some ways we can help deepen our children’s knowledge and love for Jesus.:
- Memorizing the promises of God
- Reading Old Testament stories about the Lord’s faithfulness
- Playing matching games of the miracles in the Bible
“Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4
Fall into Blessing Others
Now that the school year is in full swing, help your children think of ways they could bless those in their sphere. Whether it’s a grandparent, teacher, classmate, an elderly neighbor, or a helpful person at the grocery store, we all need blessings. God uses His children (no matter the age) to encourage others through simple acts of kindness. Blessing others doesn’t cost much but can leave an incalculable impression. Here are some simple ideas:
- Pray for others and ask God to bless them
- Take some wildflowers to their teacher
- Purchase a small gift card and surprise another with it.
God uses those in His kingdom to love the world. Teaching our children to be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit will empower them in the days and years to come to heed His voice, and ultimately obey it. A simple way to know if a prompting is from the Lord is to ask themselves “is this good?” If so, encourage them to act on the prompting. If it’s not good, then teach your children to ignore it. The Bible says that all things good come from God.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17
In this beautiful season, seek opportunities to grow in God’s Word and grow in your relationship with Jesus and others. It’s time well spent, and the ripple effects of blessings will continue long after.
