Teaching our children biblical doctrines daily is essential for their spiritual development.
Back in the 16th and 17th centuries, the Puritans, who were English Protestants, sought to purify the Church of England of Roman Catholic practices, maintaining that the Church of England had not been fully reformed and should become more Protestant.
Just as the Puritans wished for the true and full counsel of God to be known for their children, likewise, we continue today to wish for our children to know the full counsel of God as well. We can teach our children Bible stories and biblical doctrines daily for proper development morally, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
Three essential doctrines to teach your children:
- Teach who God truly is. He is not just someone who created everything. He is a personal, loving God who cares for each one of us dearly. Express that the love you have for your child is like the love God has for us. Help your child to understand that God created everything because he loves us and wants to provide for us.
- Teach them that God hates sin. Children should understand there is a heaven and a hell. If you don’t teach them about sin and damnation, you give them an incomplete view of God. Let them know that because God loves us so much that he allowed his son, Jesus, to die for our sins so we can live in heaven forever.
- Teach them the importance of having a relationship with Jesus. It is essential to have a relationship with Jesus, and they should understand the difference between a religion and a relationship. Explain that there are only two religions, man’s religion that man created in many forms, and Christianity based upon truth and love from God, His Son, and His Holy Spirit.
