What is Your Child’s Learning Environment? Lee Ann Mancini

Children have different learning styles in the way that they perceive and retain information. How can you use this to help you effectively raise Christian kids?

Cynthia Tobias’s book, Every Child Can Succeed: Making the Most of Your Child’s Learning Style, can help you better understand your child’s most meaningful and productive learning style.

It’s never too early to start instructing your child about the things of God. When you minister pre-birth to preschool-aged children, you prepare the soil, which is the first step in building a solid foundation that will support their spiritual life. If the soil is not prepared, the foundation may become weak, and the world will dismantle or destroy what has been constructed.

Each child is unique and learns differently. Methods that work for one child may not work for another. Children have varying cognitive abilities. Some children grasp concepts fast; others more slowly. The environment in which they live factors in how they learn and how they retain what they learn.

Dolphins teach their babies a signature whistle before and after birth. Dolphins naturally know this. MRI scans have shown that the brains of dolphins are second to humans in intelligence.

Volunteer at a Christian daycare or preschool before and after birth to expose your child to the sounds of children playing and singing to the Lord. It will be a familiar sound to them when they attend and help them easily adjust on their first day.

Expose them to auditory evidence of faith through spiritual songs, hymns, and biblical stories daily. Recite baby prayers.

Perhaps, they learn better in a less noisy environment. Some children learn better in a group setting. For toddlers, preschoolers, or elementary children, write down the times that you find them more engaged in the learning process. Learn about your children’s learning patterns so you can become an effective teacher!
